Facet co-founder Tom Lehman has formally proposed EIP-8182 for inclusion in Ethereum's upcoming Hegota upgrade, a move that would introduce native private transfer functionality directly at the protocol level. Unlike existing privacy solutions that rely on third-party mixing protocols or Layer 2 workarounds, EIP-8182 aims to embed transaction privacy into Ethereum's base layer, potentially transforming how users shield financial activity on-chain. If accepted by Ethereum core developers, the proposal could mark a significant shift in the network's privacy capabilities, addressing longstanding concerns about on-chain transparency. Hegota is one of Ethereum's planned hard forks following the Pectra upgrade, and its final feature set has yet to be confirmed. Lehman's pitch will need broader community and developer consensus before any formal inclusion decision is made.
