Kraken has launched cryptocurrency perpetuals trading for US customers through its Kraken Pro platform, a move made possible by the exchange's acquisition of Bitnomial in May. Bitnomial holds full Commodity Futures Trading Commission licensing as an exchange, clearinghouse, and brokerage, giving Kraken the regulatory infrastructure needed to offer derivatives products to American traders — a market historically difficult to access due to strict CFTC oversight. Perpetual contracts, which have no expiry date and are among the most traded instruments in global crypto markets, were previously unavailable to most US retail participants through major domestic platforms. The launch positions Kraken as one of the few US-based exchanges legally equipped to offer such products, potentially drawing derivatives traders who previously relied on offshore platforms.
