A fraud scheme that relied on fake police websites to deceive victims has led to prison sentences for three men in the UK, according to the Metropolitan Police. The gang impersonated law enforcement officers to convince targets to hand over cryptocurrency, ultimately stealing roughly $5.3 million. Investigators said the fraudsters lent credibility to their operation by constructing counterfeit police web pages designed to appear legitimate. Once the funds were obtained, the men spent the proceeds on luxury goods and experiences, including Rolex watches and high-end holidays.
