A hacker who exploited the Verus bridge returned 4,052.4 ETH — worth approximately $8.5 million — after the Verus team negotiated a bounty framework that allowed the attacker to retain roughly $2.8 million as a reward. The transfer was confirmed on-chain by blockchain analysts on Friday. The arrangement follows an increasingly common pattern in decentralized finance, where protocols offer white-hat bounties to recover the majority of stolen funds rather than pursue lengthy legal or technical battles. While Verus has not publicly detailed the full terms of the agreement, the outcome means the project recovered a significant portion of the exploited assets. The retained bounty represents around 25% of the total funds involved in the incident.
